For delivery within the continental U.S., we offer two choices: Economy (delivery in 5 to 8 business days) and Standard (delivery in 3 to 4 business days). Books shipped Economy will arrive via USPS. Standard shipments may be sent via USPS Priority Mail, UPS, or FedEx, depending on the specific supplier and situation.

We also make local deliveries in cases where it makes more sense to do that. If you live within a ten mile radius of Greenfield, Mass., where we're based, it's likely, though not certain, that we'll deliver the books to you ourselves. Though you'll see the above shipping options at checkout, the books may or may not be shipped, depending on whether or not we have them in stock. Either way, we'll strive to get you the books within the time frame quoted to you at checkout.

Our anti-profit business model is based in large part on committing a minimum of capital to inventory, which is typically the largest recurring expense for a bookstore selling new books. That means a number of the listings on our site are for books we don't currently carry, but which we can get for you (at a discount!) from our various suppliers.

Because the internet has transformed the way publishers and distributors operate, many of these suppliers are already set up to ship books directly to customers. We think it's silly to waste money, time and resources ordering large quantities of books that we may or may not sell. Instead of making publishers ship us books that we are likely to ship back to them at some point, we ask them to ship directly to you only when you place an order. We think that's ultimately more sustainable than the traditional way of doing business, because the books only leave the warehouse when there's a person ready to read them.

Books shipped by us are packed with care in sturdy, 100% recycled padded mailers or re-used boxes from our suppliers. Books shipping directly from publishers or distributors typically will arrive in a cardboard carton wrap. In either case, if your order is ever damaged or incomplete, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We offer full refunds for damaged shipments.

Our postage provider uses Asendia USA to get the lowest possible rates and we pass those rates along to you to make international shipping more affordable.

For Economy International shipping, your delivery window should be the same as with USPS First Class Package International, but a carrier in your destination country will make the final delivery. We will provide door-to-door tracking information for all shipments.
