When Matt Stutzman was born without arms, his birth parents’ obstetrician told them their son would never be independent, find a job, or blend into society. By the time he was three months old, Matt had been put up for adoption.
His adoptive parents, however, were undaunted by the realities of raising a child with physical disabilities. With seven siblings, Matt grew up in rural Iowa, learning to adapt to any situation. From facing down bullies to learning to write, hunt, and drive with his feet, his parents’ attention and support laid the groundwork for Matt’s resilience and self-sufficiency.
But in adulthood as a married father with two kids, ,Matt faced doubts from potential employers and struggled to find work. In desperation to literally put food on the table, he hunted with a bow, honing his unique shooting style to bring home deer for meals—and launched a career in archery.
Determined to make the most of a new opportunity, Matt’s competitive archery circuit took him to Para competitions in Toronto, London, and Dubai, ultimately earning a name for himself as a record-setting archer and gold medalist in the 2024 Paris Paralympics. Now considered one of the world’s greatest archers, Matt continues to break limits as a licensed driver for the National Hot Rod Association.
Built on the bedrock of Matt’s can-do confidence, Nothing Out of Reach is a buoyant reminder that with patience, practice, and the right mindset, any limit can become an opportunity.
