Following the death of her parents and her time at a boarding school for young ladies, Emma has spent the last three years living with her unbearable and tyrannical cousin Matilde. Meanwhile, her cousin Archibald has been in charge of Lapis Lazuli House—the home Emma’s parents left her upon their death in the charming neighborhood of St. Crispian’s—and managing the young woman’s inheritance as he pleases. On the verge of coming of age, Emma is determined to reclaim her home and take control of her life.
Archibald, however, is not willing to give in without a fight, so he locks the library and banishes Emma to the attic. To make matters worse, it isn’t even a whole attic, but only a part of it, since Archibald—in order to finance his inexplicable fondness for dressing gowns—partitioned off a section of the house with the intention of renting it out.
But Emma, armed with her irresistible charm, her talent, and her rebellious spirit, isn’t about to give up.
