Julie Loeckx is a rapidly emerging voice in contemporary painting. Through her distinctive, poetic visual language, she explores the tension between figuration and abstraction, intimacy and distance. Loeckx return to painting began with the discovery of a forgotten box of watercolor paints in the attic. As a child she had taken after-school art classes, but later chose a different path, studying urban planning and landscape architecture and building a career in project development. When time eventually opened up again, the pieces fell into place. Loeckx began sharing her work on Instagram, and commissions soon followed, allowing her to devote herself to art full time. Over time, her practice evolved from figurative work toward more abstract compositions that still retain a subtle figurative presence. Her distinctive visual language also proved naturally suited to product design, and was soon translated into objects such as vases, rugs, plaids, and tables.
