ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

For the first time, all of Gata Cattana’s song lyrics are gathered in a single book featuring handwritten notes, unpublished photos, and behind-the-scenes details. For those who have always listened to her music and for those just beginning to discover this icon of urban music.

Gata Cattana’s songs encompassed Granada and Rome, rap and copla, Lorca and Lysistrata, neighborhoods and gods, political rage and fragility, love, death, history, and the future. Ana Isabel García Llorente forged all of this into a language of her own: fierce, cultured, ironic, and deeply Andalusian. She wrote like someone fighting, but also searching for an answer.

Fire and Root brings together her song lyrics for the first time and allows us to trace, song by song, the evolution of Gata: from the insolence and hunger of her early tracks to the extraordinary maturity of Banzai. Manuscripts, photographs, and materials from her archive accompany these words, which were meant to be spoken aloud and now also demand to be read. Because for Gata, writing was never a mere embellishment, but a way of being in the world and confronting it.
