In the stories of The Long Run, Croaker records the misadventures of The Black Company during the interval between the conclusion of events in Shadows Linger and the beginning of The White Rose, while on the run from The Lady.

Many of the stories have appeared in various anthologies and collections over the last decade and a half, with the exception of “Sorrows” and “Queen’s Bridge,” which are original to this collection.
