From New York Times bestselling co-author of The Bletchley Riddle, Steve Sheinkin, comes an exciting new adventure about a 12-year-old treasure hunter and his race to find pirate gold in New York City.
Did you know that buried treasure really exists? That the real-life pirate William Kidd is rumored to have hidden a fortune in gold coins somewhere near New York City?
Well, Sam Sparkler knows. Sam dreams of becoming one of the world’s great treasure hunters and takes his metal detector everywhere—even school. When his parents leave town for a long weekend, Sam, his sort-of best friend Smiley, and his sort-of irresponsible step-brother Tristan seize the opportunity to hunt down Captain Kidd’s long-lost loot.
Their quest sends them racing from clue to clue, state to state, becoming more nail-biting as the trio discovers that a rival hunter is hot on their trail. Will Sam find the gold? Or maybe something even more valuable?
Drawing on the true history of piracy and lost treasure, this is rip-roaring adventure from Steve Sheinkin, acclaimed author of Bomb and Diamond Fever.
