London, 1842. Alex Ivanov has good reason to believe in luck despite the fact someone tried to kill him when he was 12 years old, and he woke up with no memory at all of who he was or who wanted him dead. A bad start indeed, but his luck stepped in. Ryder Sherbrooke saved Alex from drowning in the Thames and raised him as one of his own children. Alex is smart, insightful, fascinated by trains, how they work, how to make them better. It doesn't hurt he's a pleasure to look at.

More luck taps him on the shoulder. When Alex is 24, he meets Lady Camilla (Cam) Rohman, a young lady who's outspoken, funny, brave, and loyal to the bone. She has a wonderful father, a wicked stepmother, a hysterical deaf great aunt, and two outlandish suitors. Cam believes life is a trial, but after meeting Alex, it definitely gets more interesting.

As luck would have it, Alex discovers his identity, but alas, not his memory. He has a family and an enemy who had believed him dead for twelve long years. But no more.

Will his luck hold? Will Alex remember who he is? And who is the mortal enemy who wanted the boy dead and now the man?
